Shadow Study

This book threw me for a loop from the beginning because it had different perspectives! Finally we learned more about Valek's past! I don't usually like reading from the love interest's perspective because it usually changes my opinion of them, but that wasn't the case here, Maria did a great job with it. He never felt whiney or less than he had been before (which is my usual complaint), but instead felt strong but with more depth. Honestly, his story was the more interesting than Yelena's this time around. Not that her struggle wasn't real. Losing her magic completely was a huge twist that I never saw coming. Especially because it wasn't something that was fixed right away or anything like that. The fact that she didn't have her magic anymore though and kept going after the 'bad guys' was interesting to me though. I think I would feel more vulnerable and want to lay low or hide. That's just not Yelena's style though.

It's so hard not to talk to you guys about the twists at the end. Its so shocking that I didn't see any of it coming even if I should have. It's one of those things that your mind refuses to think these things are even a possibility, and then the evidence is right there in your face and there's nothing you can do about. I was every bit as shocked as Yelena and Valek. If you've read these, can you let me know what you think? I'm dying to have someone to talk to about these books!
