Fire Study

After the craziness of the holiday weekend, it felt good to get back into reading! I feel like summer is one thing after another and that really cuts into my usual reading time! For these reasons I am not a fan. Also it's hot. Why must it be so hot? Summer is definitely not my favorite season.

Fire Study was such a beautiful story. I enjoyed it so much more than Magic Study and would put it on par with Poison Study. Yelena has so much growth and goes through so much but it's also very focused. We learn more about her fears and the things that hold her back in a way that makes her very human. However, at the same time I want to watch Yelena grow into someone who doesn't let her fear of her loved ones getting hurt hold her back. She knows how strong her friends are yet she still doesn't trust them to take care of themselves. Maybe that's because she's not the best at taking care of herself either. I would just love to read a story about her where there's some other big deal that holds her back.

Regardless, I really did love the story. I love the relationship between Yelena and Valek. I love the fights that they have and the love that they share. So much of that felt so real too. But maybe that's just my own sentimentality speaking now that I've been married for ten years (eek!). It just felt like such a real portrayal of the back and forth that happens in a relationship.

Also, the betrayals in this one took me by surprise and twist in who/what Yelena is was beautiful. If you read Magic Study and it bogs you down a little, don't give up yet! Fire Study is so worth the read and I can't wait to dive into the next one. (I am skipping the Glass series because I read those last year. If you haven't read them, technically they come next.)
