Magic Study

My husband has been slowly giving me all the books in this series over the last four years and just gave me the last one in April. So brace yourselves, I'm going to be reading through them this summer (with others scattered in between). I've actually read books 1-3 before but not the last ones, 4-6. I'm pretty excited about it and it makes it hard to get through the ones I've read even if I do need a refresher haha.

This book has always felt to me kind of like a cream filling book. It's pretty good, but it's more important for set up. Like for Opal's books, which I read last summer, and for Yelena's job and family and such. I wouldn't call it as good as Poison Study, but it's still good and worth the read.

Yelena has been exiled from Ixia in this book and has to make her way to Sitia to reconnect with the family she can't remember and must learn to control her magic. Her parents accept her without a thought, but her brother... that's a whole different story. Through his influence, haha, she meets a man who says he's the last of Ixia's royal line, and he's trying to do everything in his power to take Ixia back. This leads to many discussions of whether or not Yelena is Ixia's spy. But all of this pales in comparison to the killer who's been hunting down girls and slowly killing them while stealing their souls for his own magical ends. Yelena has to balance doing what she knows is right with what Sitia expects of her, which leads to a whole lot of problems.

If you haven't gotten into Yelena's story, what are you waiting for? Maria V. Snyder can always provide an amazing plot that is sure to have you staying up far too late, and, in my case, ignoring your kids for most of the day!
